NTPC Kerandari Coal Mining Project's mining operations started on 5th April 2023. Opencast mining technique shall be used for Mining at Kerandari.

The mine will have a peak production capacity of 6 MTPA.

Chief Guest Shri Manoj Ratan Chothe, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police and Shri Partha Mazumder, Regional Executive Director of NTPC Coal Mining were present during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chothe expressed optimism about increased employment and training opportunities for students, while Shri Mazumder acknowledged the contributions of the local administration, villagers, and NTPC's management team.

Around 2500 people from neighbouring villages celebrated the ceremony for the start of work and conveyed their joy by drumming and music.
