Core to the company’s philosophy, CSR has been an integral part of NTPC’s business of power generation and lighting up the lives of millions of Indians. NTPC’s spirit of caring and sharing is embedded in its mission statement. In the same line as good neighbours, the Corporate Social Responsibility team of NTPC Korba has recently financially aided Laparotomy surgery for one of the female contract workers of CHP at NTPC Korba.

On periodic medical check-ups under CLIMS, one female contractual worker of CHP was presented at the Gynaecology OPD with complaints of severe dysmenorrhoea, dyspareunia, and irregular vaginal bleeding. She had these complaints for the last year. After clinical examination and routine investigations like USG which was done by Dr Parimita Hura, Consultant (Radiology), showed that the left ovarian had an exophytic cyst of size 8cm x 6cm.

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled structures usually discovered incidentally on physical examination or imaging. Ovarian cysts can cause complications, including rupture, haemorrhage, and torsion, which are considered gynaecological emergencies. Therefore, it is essential to promptly diagnose and treat them to avoid high morbidity and mortality.

Hence, on 22 April 2024, Laparotomy surgery was performed and the cyst was removed under spinal anaesthesia. The surgery was performed by Gynaecologist Dr Pratibha Archana Das with support from anaesthesiologist Dr Babita Chourasia and the team of NTPC Korba Hospital.

BUH Korba, Shri Sarit Maheshwari congratulated the doctors for the successful operation and once again felt proud that NTPC Korba’s CSR initiatives are benefitting the needy.
