NTPC Pakri Barwadih is happy to announce a significant milestone in its community development initiatives with an ongoing  three-week training programme on the traditional Sohrai art form. This programme, aimed at empowering 42 young girls, is currently being conducted at MAITI Dhenga and focuses on skill development in the unique and culturally rich mural paintings native to the Hazaribagh district.

The training-cum-workshop on Sohrai painting, organised by the NTPC Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project (PB-CMP), seeks to preserve and promote the heritage of Jharkhand by equipping the next generation with valuable artistic skills. This initiative not only fosters a connection to cultural roots but also provides the participants with potential future opportunities in the art and craft sector.

Today, the workshop witnessed a special visit from Shri Pankaj Dhyani, General Manager (Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement). Shri Dhyani took the opportunity to observe the beautiful Sohrai paintings and related products created by the young participants. Expressing his satisfaction, Shri GM (LA&RR) commended the hard work and creativity of the girls, acknowledging their efforts in mastering a new skill set deeply embedded in their cultural heritage.“The enthusiasm and dedication shown by these young girls in learning and preserving Sohrai art are commendable. This initiative by Pakri Barwadih not only supports skill development but also ensures that our rich cultural traditions continue to thrive through the younger generation,” said Shri Pankaj Dhyani.

One of the participants, Kumari Isha Verma, expressed her gratitude to NTPC Pakri Barwadih, saying, “This programme has given me a new skill and a deep appreciation for my cultural heritage. My parents are proud of the paintings I have created, and I am thankful for the support from NTPC in making this possible.”

This meaningful workshop is being conducted under the guidance of Shri Sandip Kumar, a specialist trainer, and Shri M. K. Upadhyay, Principal of MAITI. Their combined efforts have helped the girls achieve a high level of proficiency in Sohrai art, showcasing their work in various creative formats.
NTPC Pakri Barwadih remains committed to its mission of community development and cultural preservation. Through initiatives like the Sohrai art training programme, the company continues to make a positive impact, fostering skill development and celebrating the rich traditions of Jharkhand.
